So today kody and i were playing with bright pink sparkly playdoh, my new favorite! Anyway, she's making little creations and she says

"Here mom. This is for your Christmas"

I guess she is starting early on Christmas gifts. I laughed so hard

Happy St Patrick's Day

Happy St Patrick's Day!!! To celebrate I am wearing green of course and I made sugar cookies in the shape of clovers! Very festive!

My don't those look oh so tasty!? I love making sugar cookies. They take a lot of time but they're too good! You know you want some. I usually make them for every holiday if I have the time. I didn't make them for Vday but hey easter is coming up soon

Craziness

I am so glad that this past week is over! This was the week of my midterm. Lets reflect on what happened. Ready? Here we go--

 On monday I had to go to school from 8-3 (we get every other monday off now). We had our Respiratory simulation and luckily this time our patient got better and didn't "crash" on us like our Cardiac patient did. Mind you these are plastic patients that do breathe, talk, have lung sounds and heart rates and you can feel their pulse. The only difference is that really they don't move. It's a little weird to pretend to take care of someone when that someone is plastic. Anyway, so our patient got better, we as nursing students are becoming more competent in what we are doing. OH and i guess I should mention that our plastic patients are being controlled from a different room that our instructor is in. That monday I was able to study somewhat. I believe Kole was home that day... yes, yes he was. He happened to have that day off so he was able to take care of Kody for me while i studied. 

Tuesday I had school from 8-10. Kole was working in tucson this day I believe so when Kody and I got home, she took a nap and I got right to studying. Then Kody and I went for a walk. She loves going on walks. On our way back to our house she wanted to go say Hi to boy Cody. Boy Cody is a few months older than girl Kody and that is what people call them at church. And when they are together they say "it's the CKody's" or "where are the CKody's?" It's rather cute. He's a cute lil boy. So anyway, I ended up helping Kathleen with enrichment night stuff. I rolled the potatoes in foil while the kids played and did some other things. I feel like I have really gotten to know Kathleen really well these past few months. She is such an awesome gal.  Her husband Craig is really cool too. A down to earth couple with 3 kids. Kody loves to see their kids. She talks about them all the time- but crazy enough when we get into their presence Kody freezes up and won't go play without me by her side. It' frustrating. Very, very frustrating.  Anyway, I was there til about 4:30 then we had to go home and I had to get some stuff done of my own for enrichment night. Kole came home early-ish. Just in time for me to go to enrichment. It was celebrating the birthday of Relief Society. I have never had so much fun at an EN in a long time. We played games, had dinner, and ate Birthday cake. The center pieces were birthday cakes that we could eat at the end of the night. It was awesome. We played this game where we had to roll dice among our table and if we got doubles, we had to place oven mittens on and try to open a present. Well the gift was wrapped up inside 6 different boxes and I ended up doing all the work. I rolled doubles and I had the gift for a long time and I got it down to the second to last box before it was snatched away from me. It was just candy as the reward, but still. Then we played RS scategories. That was fun. Scategories is probably my favorite game. Then that night after EN I had to study some more.

Wednesday it was my turn to go to the surgery center to stand in on a surgery and learn how to do pre-op and post-op procedures. Not learn as much as it was to get the experience.  Kole had the day off so he was able to stay home with Kody which is my favorite. When he gets to stay home it makes my life a lot less stressful. So anyway, I did a lot of standing around. I gotta tell ya, I thought pre-op was really boring. I wasn't even allowed to start IV's. I think it would have been more exciting if I could or if I was even allowed to do the paper work. Once I finally got to stand in on a surgery... that was fun. It was a simple one- maybe 15-20 minutes long. It was a nerve decompression. As I was getting ready to go into the room I met with the surgeon and the fellow people who were going in too and they were already making fun of me saying I was going to pass out and all that stuff. About 10 minutes into the procedure my stomach started turning, and my face started getting hot and I saw the black spots. I turned around and said "okay" and the OR nurse was right there by my side, she walked me out into the break room, made me lie down and they put a cool rag over my head. I had to flippin leave the OR. I felt like an idiot. And honestly is wasn't even the site that bothered me. It was the smell of the room-it was as if the room had too much of a cleansiness to it, if that makes any sense,  and having to breathe through a mask. I don't know. I promise it wasn't the site. It was maybe an inch in length and I've seen things worse than that. Well the surgeon came in the room after he was done doing whatever he needed to do to check on me. I thought that was cool. I was able to go back in the room and watch the PA close up the incision. They were all really cool to me. I really enjoyed the OR atmosphere. If I can get past the smell of the OR then I think that is something I may want to do. Well the patient was in post-op for an hour tops and then that person went home. I went back and saw a "pain procedure" done. That is where an anathesiologist will use a fancy schmancy x-ray machine and other tools and insert a needle into the spine to relieve that pain. That was neat seeing how that was done and the Dr was very informative about what he was doing. I appreciated him explaining the procedure to me. Around 1:30 they told me I could go home. It was seriously rather boring there when I wasn't doing something.  I got home and was able to study for a long while, which I was grateful for. I felt bad for the kids in my group who had to stay at their clinicals til 5 or so. 

Thursday was my midterm. I felt that all of my studying was pointless. Once again the test did not reflect what we have been "taught" and there were questions in there that were not even discussed, nor did our instructor tell us to look at it. It is seriously annoying! So the whole class didn't do too hot again. I don't know what is with that. I'm sick of hearing "that's how school is" blah blah blah. That is NOT how school should be. If they want to prepare us for our boards, then put freakin questions on the test that reflect what we are being taught. Seriously dumb. The only comfort I get is that i'm not the only one who thinks this or did poorly on the test. I still passed the test, but I felt that I did better. After the test me and 3 other girls went out to breakfast. That was fun. I enjoy hanging out with the girls in my cohort. I've made some really good friends. 

Friday Kody had tumbling. She is so cute when she does what she's asked to do. She has a little friend, Mason in her class who is so adorable. Kole went riding that day (friday the 13th) and of all days he actually ran into a cactus. The needles went through his gloves into his hand, his Knee pads, and heavy duty pants and now he still has cactus needles in his hand and leg. Geez! That night we went to chili's for dinner. Pictures to follow. Note to self- don't ever eat at chili's again because it messes with my insides. enough said. 

Saturday we cleaned the house, went grocery shopping and I made some cookies. Kole had his scouts over that night to take care of some things for their mountain man campout that they are going on sometime this next week. Kody and I went to the park and played. The BIG mess afterwards. I actually had to scoop up handfuls of flour back onto the tray before I vacuumed it up. Nice thing about flour is that it is easy clean up.

We went to the park. She loves going down the slides. She really has gotten better at playing at the park. She didn't do much before but now she is, which is nice for me. I always felt like going to the park was pointless when she didn't even enjoy herself.

Happy Anniversary to us!

Happy Anniversary to us! We are celebrating 4 years. These past 4 years have been full of many emotions. Why can't it just be bliss the entire time?? Fighting is so lame, but it happens so often and all over the world too. Kole has been working in Tucson for the past few weeks and he was gone the day of our anniversary, but to my surprise, he came home early with 2 bundles of carnations!! I love, love, LOVE carnations. They are my favorite flower. I think they are so pretty.  

So anyway, I'm cleaning the kitchen, washing dishes, wiping off counters, etc when I hear the door open and of course my heart starts racing immediately- and who comes walking in?- Kole. I thought he was going to let me know when he was coming home, but he wanted to surprise me instead. Here I thought I was going to get the house clean before his arrival, but oh well. It was good to see him. We didn't go out that night. We were both so exhausted from our long days, so instead the 3 of us went out for a walk.  Kody gets so excited when Kole comes home. She screams "daddy!" and runs over to him to give him big hugs and kisses. We went out to celebrate the following night. We just went to a movie and dinner. Sounds like a regular date right? We saw "Taken" and Kole did not like the movie all that much because it made him sick to his stomach. He does not recommend that movie to anyone who has a daughter. I wasn't affected that way, but I tried not to picture Kody in that situation. Action scenes were cool, violence was not graphic, and there were no "F" words in the movie. That's a plus in my book. It seemed like our anniversary sprang upon us. Its okay to not do anything too elaborate... that's what i keep telling myself anyway. I really don't have any good ideas on what to do- ever. I'm pretty lame in the "coming up with a good date" category.  It seemed like when we were dating or first newly weds we did a lot of fun things. Where did those ideas go? Pff. oh well. Hopefully next year for our big 5 we'll get to do something awesome. If all goes well I'll be in my last semester of school!  Wow. I can't wait.
